It's OK to Be Angry About Capitalism Book

When you encounter a book titled It’s OK to Be Angry About Capitalism written by Bernie Sanders, you might expect to read about how money and politics work in the United States. Sanders is well-known for his strong views on these subjects, so I think it is normal that I expected the book to offer some novel insights on the topic when I found it on the library shelf.

It is said that wealth cannot buy happiness. But it is undeniably true that poverty can lead to despair.

Bernie Sanders, It’s OK to Be Angry About Capitalism

In the beginning, Sanders discusses what he believes are the major issues with the American economic system. He points out that a small group of people holds most of the wealth and that there’s a significant gap in earnings between the top bosses and ordinary workers. He also challenges the belief that the market is all about innovation and competition, arguing that it’s actually dominated by a few large corporations.

Throughout the book, Sanders discusses his previous elections, his supports for politicians like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and detailing strategies to oppose Donald Trump. He also addresses certain issues, such as healthcare. Sanders emphasizes the importance of young people getting involved in politics to enact change. He acknowledges that solving society’s problems is difficult and time-consuming. He underlines the importance of grassroot movements and persistence–which I highly respect.

Real changes always comes from the bottom on up.

Bernie Sanders, It’s OK to Be Angry About Capitalism

As I continued reading, I realized that the book did not meet my expectations. It focuses more on preparing for significant changes in the country and motivates people to act rather than providing insights on capitalism from a politician’s perspective. Therefore, if you’re looking for a basic understanding of Bernie Sanders’ views on political change and his vision for America, this book delivers clear messages. But if you were hoping for a detailed examination of capitalism or strong critiques of other politicians, like me, you might want to look for a different book.
