As you can probably tell from the title, I already got my Hobonichi 2027! I ordered it the moment it officially launched, 1 September 2026, 11 AM Japanese time, which for me in Finland meant 5 AM. I bought two from their new lineup: the HON A6 2027 in Hiroko Kubota’s String Telephone Until the Moon is Full, and the A6 Graph Notebook in Moomin. It arrived the very next day!

But let’s rewind a little, because the whole process (luckily and gratefully) went smoother than I expected (thank you Mic and Mim!!).

Getting Ready to Buy

Since I live in Finland, the obvious choice was Mic and Mim as the nearest international partner shop for Hobonichi and also where I buy pretty much all my stationery.

A few days before launch, Mic and Mim had already published the full new Hobonichi lineup, though the “add to cart” button was not available yet.

Since selling would start at 5 AM this year, and I realize that I wouldn’t be operating at peak consciousness that early, I did my prep the day before. On 31 August, I opened every product tab I wanted in advance, so when the clock hit launch time, all I had to do was click the “add to cart” button.

Mic and Mim offers free delivery over 100 euros purchase, but my total (even with a few other stationery bits thrown in) landed under that. If you live in the same city as Mic and Mim, you can pick up your online order in person. So no delivery fee, which also suits perfectly for someone with as little patience as me. I’d rather go get it myself than sit around waiting for a delivery.

The D-Day

I woke up at 4:30 AM on 1 September, mostly just to gather myself. By 5 AM sharp, I was at my desk with tabs already open from the day before. Add to cart, choose in-store pickup, pay. Done! The whole thing took less than five minutes.

It wasn’t until a bit later that I realize my smooth purchasing process was taken for granted. I scrolled through Hobonichi’s Instagram stories and some reddit posts where I saw the chaos I’d missed entirely: the website buckling under traffic, crashing for some, and no shortage of complaints in the comments. Mic and Mim also shared on their Instagram stories some DMs from customers comparing their experience, and Mic and Mim’s was the smoothest one.

So, sincerely, thank you, Mic and Mim, for a website that didn’t flinch, a checkout that did not stress me out. It worked perfectly!

The Waiting

You know the meme of standing by the window, watching for a delivery they ordered minutes ago? That was me, except my version was refreshing Gmail, waiting for the “ready for pickup” email.

And it finally landed the next afternoon. Off I went!!

Picking Up and Unboxing

At the shop, I browsed what Hobonichi stock the shop had left on the shelves plus a few other stationery pieces, but I didn’t linger for long. I was too eager to get home and start unboxing.

Everything was just as cute as I’d hoped!

The Moomin A6 notebook. The Hiroko Kubota HON. One small disappointment, though: unlike previous years, the pencil board no longer comes bundled with the HON. For 2027, it’s sold separately as an accessory. A little sad, but I can just reuse the one from last year.

And then there were the “Life Grows” stickers as the limited-edition free gift for anyone who bought Hobonichi Techo 2027 book. I looooove them. They’re already stuck on my laptop, right alongside my other favorite cute stickers.
