March has arrived, carrying with it the quiet shift from winter’s chill toward spring’s gentle warmth. It’s a month caught between seasons, undecided about the weather it wants to embrace. One day, sunlight pours generously from clear skies, whispering promises of blooming flowers and fresh beginnings. The next, thick snowflakes drift silently down, covering streets and sidewalks as if winter is reluctant to say goodbye. Yet, through this playful tug-of-war, there’s one undeniable truth: daylight stretches a bit longer each evening, and the soft, golden glow of sunset stays with us just a little more, hinting gently that spring is surely on its way.
With the gradual shift in seasons, birdwatchers have eagerly started flocking outdoors, binoculars in hand, observing the migration patterns of birds returning home. There’s something genuinely magical about witnessing nature shake off its winter slumber and slowly come back to life.
Springtime Awakens in Helsinki
As spring cautiously peeks into Helsinki, the city buzzes with anticipation. Residents are preparing for a lively season packed with events, gatherings, and activities. Honestly, I wish I had enough time and energy to participate in every single one—there’s just so much happening, and it feels wonderfully overwhelming.
One of the early highlights of the month was the 97th anniversary of Cinema Orion, which was celebrated in collaboration with the cozy neighboring café, Café Tampopo. The air buzzed with nostalgia and love for classic cinema, making it a perfect way to step into March.
Another standout event for me was the Fun Design Market. It was heaven for stationery enthusiasts like myself, filled with handmade treasures, quirky designs, and endless inspiration. I walked away with charming finds that promise to elevate my journaling sessions to delightful new levels.
Back to Running Outdoors

During winter, I’d paused my outdoor running routine. Yes, running through cold, crisp air can be invigorating, but icy sidewalks and slippery paths are less enticing—especially with the potential for bruises or worse. Thankfully, my gym membership served as an excellent indoor alternative to keep my cardio goals intact.
Now, with most of the snow melted and paths free of ice, I’ve joyfully laced up my running shoes again. The temperature, dancing between zero and ten degrees, is perfect for refreshing outdoor runs. Each jog reveals subtle signs of nature awakening: tiny buds emerging from branches, new sprouts pushing through soil, and the cheerful clusters of birdwatchers, their eyes eagerly scanning the skies. The city itself feels as if it’s stretching, waking from winter’s grip, ready to embrace brighter days.
Mid-March reminds me that spring’s arrival isn’t always a straightforward journey. Chilly winds and surprise snow flurries have returned, keeping everyone guessing. The forecast cautiously promises a steady warm-up, yet with climate change’s unpredictable twists, certainty is elusive.
Still, regardless of weather fluctuations, my hope remains constant: may the days ahead become brighter. Not only filled with sunshine but also warmth and positivity in each of our lives.
Warmer, brighter days lie ahead, waiting patiently for the world, nature, and all of us.
